Touch Me

A tangible user interface is one of significant technologies in interactive art. I presented a real-time experimental tangible media project using water. The device consists of an Arduino to detect a human hands in water and an iSight to track hands. The motion tracking data makes interesting sound like a Theremin through sound generation software. Visual interaction is also showed in water. Audiences can experience experimental sound and feel interested in this project.

The following is a summary of sound generation. First, when touching water with an audience’s hand, a motion detector gathers 2D data and sends it to computer. Then computer analyze the data. X-axis data will be a frequency of sound and Y-axis data will be a pitch of sound. Therefore, audiences will play this device easily. The sound will vary from person to person. It was written in Max/MSP/Jitter.
